Kenyan Teas

The Mombasa auction is home to over 16 origins of African teas.

Kenyan teas in particular is celebrated for its bold and robust flavor. The country's diverse geography, including high-altitude plateaus and fertile valleys, contributes to the tea's distinctive taste characterized by deep, malty notes. These teas typically produce a bright and coppery liquor in the cup. This vibrant color reflects the high-quality leaves and contributes to the visual appeal of the tea. Much of Kenya's tea is cultivated at high altitudes, where the cooler temperatures slow down leaf growth, resulting in concentrated flavors. Teas from regions like Kericho and Nandi Hills benefit from these conditions.

Kenya is known for producing both orthodox (traditional leaf style) and CTC (Crush, Tear, Curl) teas. This versatility allows for a wide range of tea varieties, from the large, whole-leaf orthodox teas to the smaller, granular CTC teas commonly used in tea bags
